May 2017 – Sweet Summertime

Here we go.  It's officially summertime.  In the past May has always been one of our busiest months and this year was no different.  I'm still seeing a buying trend with the 35-45' sailboats.  I think a lot of folks have had it with the absurdly overpriced real estate in the Charleston area.  And it's nice if you can sail your home to the Caribbean for a week or two whenever you want.  I'm hoping to see this trend continue. On a personal note, I had a chance to spend a few days on Daufuskie Island with the family this month.  We took the boat down from Bohicket and through the ACE Basin on the ICW.  I forgot how nice it was to actually sit back and enjoy a boat ride.  No backdown maneuvers, no thermal imaging, just cruising.  The ACE Basin is still one of my favorite places on earth.   [gallery link="file" ids="865,866,880,881,882,868,867,879,878,877,876,874,873,872,871,869,875,870"]...

April 2017 – Snakes & Baseball

Typically the busiest boat-buying month of the year for us in Charleston, April did not disappoint.  We surveyed boats of all shapes and sizes and from all over the state.  Like I theorized last month, I think the lack of a real winter had people itching to get out on the water a lot earlier than usual this year.  And boaters weren't the only ones out and about this month. Unfazed by the implications of my Irish heritage, the snakes down here are starting to get a little too familiar with me.  I relocated two smooth earth snakes and one southern black racer already and it's not even summer yet.  I also had a corn snake scare the living crap out of me on the porch last week.  I actually decided to let him stay and take a stab at our backyard mole problem.  I know most people hate snakes, but corn snakes are about as dangerous as a golden retriever...

March 2017 – An Underrated Month

I always underestimate how pleasant March weather can be.  For anyone reading this from out-of-town, March is a great time to visit Charleston (June-August, not so much).  Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this either.  We nearly doubled our survey volume from last March.  I think our "winter" was so mild it accelerated the springtime boat-buying rush.  In any case, we stayed plenty busy this month.   Photos from a few surveys this month: [gallery ids="841,840,839,835,836,837,838,834,833,832,831,830,829,828,827"]...
