All surveys include a comprehensive report detailing the vessel’s condition using both photographs and a descriptive narrative. Reports are emailed directly to clients as a PDF file.

Condition & Value Surveys
Condition & Value surveys, also known as C&V’s, are most often conducted as part of the pre-purchase process or for insurance and financing purposes. When we conduct C&V surveys, we essentially inspect and test every accessible inch of the boat. While each survey is different, C&V surveys typically consist of a haul-out and/or bottom inspection, systems testing and at least one sea trial. Pre-purchase surveys can be much more intense requiring oil testing, compression testing, rigging inspections aloft, thermal imaging, etc.
Rate: $20-$25 per foot (based on LOA) depending on vessel type and size.
All C&V surveys include:
– Inspection & testing of all onboard systems
– Moisture testing & percussion sounding of all structural members
– Haul-out with bottom inspection and running gear inspection*
– Sea trials** (both sail and power, if applicable)
– Fair market value appraisal
Additional pre-purchase survey options:
– Engine compression testing – gasoline engines only
– Thermal imaging
– Aloft rigging surveys
– Oil sample testing (gas and diesel engines, generators, transmissions)
*Haul-out and pressure wash fees are not included in the survey cost and are billed separated by the owner/buyer’s chosen boatyard.
**When a sea trial is performed, it is the responsibility of the boat owner, broker or seller to provide qualified personnel to operate the vessel.
All damage inspections are performed with our partners at Knox Marine Surveyors and Consultants.
Complete marine rigging surveys at deck level and aloft. Rigging surveys are typically conducted for the following reasons:
– Pre-purchase rig inspections
– Aloft surveys for USCG Certificate of Inspection
– Annual rig inspections
– NDT dye penetrate inspection of rigging components
– Rig measurements for new sails
– Pre and post-race rig tension gauging
Rate: $100.00 per hour
Compression Testing & Performance Sea Trials
Compression testing of gasoline engines can be performed as part of any survey as well as independently. Compression testing often goes hand in hand with engine performance testing. During these performance sea trials, engine performance is monitored during various maneuvers at different speed/RPM ranges. Performance sea trials can reveal weak links within the propulsion system – low compression, carbon build-up in cylinders, oil pressure issues, improper fuel delivery, improperly pitched propellers, weight distribution, etc.
Rate: Compression tests are priced per-engine. Pricing varies and depends on the number of engines, engine access, and engine size. Performance sea trials are priced by the hour @ $100.00 per hour.
