Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a survey cost?
Typically between $20-$26 per foot.
Pre-purchase and condition & value surveys are priced by-the-foot, and typically fall somewhere between $20 and $26 per foot (based on the boat’s LOA). Price per foot varies and depends on the vessel size and type. Damage claims and thermal imaging are priced per hour. See our Services & Rates page for more pricing info.
Do I have to attend the survey?
This is entirely up to you.
I think it’s great if the buyer is able to attend the survey, but sometimes scheduling and logistical conflicts make this impossible. The good news is my survey process is the same whether you can make it or not.
Who gets a copy of the survey report?
Only the survey purchaser receives a copy of the survey report. Furthermore, the survey purchaser is under no obligation to share the report or its contents with anyone else. If you’re buying a boat, a survey report can be an incredibly valuable negotiating too. It is yours to share or not share with whomever you’d like.
How soon is the survey conducted?
As soon as logistically possible.
This can vary quite a bit. A lot of shedules have to line up just right to book a survey date. The yard, broker, captain, me, you. It can be tough getting all parties on board at the same time. That said, we stay as flexible as possible and most surveys are conducted within 5-10 days of booking.
When will i receive the survey report?
Within 5 business days.
Report submission time can also vary a lot, depending on the time of year and the complexity of the survey findings. Reports are almost always submitted to you within 5 business days (usually sooner). If we anticipate a delay due to work load, we will let you know up front.
